PREFACE

This special issue of Discussiones Mathematicae Graph Theory (DMGT) is dedicated to selected papers presented at the 14th Workshop on Graph Theory: Colourings, Independence and Domination (CID) held on 18-23 September 2011 in Szklarska Poreba, Poland. It continues a series of international workshops: 1993-1997 in Lubiatów, 1998-2001 in Gronów, and 2003-2007 in Karpacz. The meeting was organized by the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Econometrics, under the auspice of Rector of University of Zielona Góra. The 14th Workshop CID was partially sponsored by the Committee on Mathematics of Polish Academy of Sciences and the International Visegrad Fund. About 93 participants formed the audience of the following invited lectures:

Izak Broere (University of Pretoria, Pretoria, Republic of South Africa)
Countable Universal Graphs for Properties of Countable Graphs

Jochen Harant (Technical University of Ilmenau, Ilmenau, Germany)
The Caro-Wei-bound on Independence

Sandi Klavzar (University of Ljubljana, Ljubljana, Slovenia)
Domination Game

Alexandr V. Kostochka (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, USA)
Large Minors in Graphs with High Chromatic Number

Andrzej Proskurowski (University of Oregon, Eugene, USA)
Width Parameters, DP Algorithms, and Obstructions

Andrzej Ruciński (Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, Poland)
Fractional Matchings in Hypergraphs and Their Applications

Zdenek Ryjácek (University of West Bohemia, Pilsen, Czech Republic)
Stability of Hereditary Graph Classes under Closure Operations

Zsolt Tuza (Hungarian Academy of Sciences and University of Pannonia, Veszprem, Hungary)
Packing and Covering

and 65 contributed talks.

The papers included in this special issue were refereed according to the standards of DMGT. We would like to express our sincere thanks to the authors for their valuable contribution and the referees for their commitment and dedication.
